Global women network to decide food sustainability
Expo Milano 2015, a universal exposition to be hosted in Italy from May 1 to October 31, 2015 has developed a project called WE which will create a global network of women who can act together on the topics of nutrition, thus improving the universal right to food. The project with theme: ‘Feeding the planet, energy for life’ has been developed in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry and the Foundation Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori.
The organisers in a press release said the target is to reach out to and involve the largest possible number of women and invite them to express their opinion on food, not only by growing and cooking it, but also by deciding which future can be built together for the next generations in terms of sustainability.
WE is supported by a scientific international board and by the Women in Diplomacy Committee, set up at the Italian foreign ministry and headed by the minister – Emma Bonino. The organisers unveiled this to the African community at the African Media Leaders Forum held in Ethiopia by the African Media Initiative which had top African media leaders in attendance.
According to the organisers, the pavilions of the countries which will participate in Expo Milano 2015 will be built on an area of some 1 million sq metre, along the route connecting Rho-Fiera and Malpensa airport in Milan, Italy.
The exhibition and the thousands of cultural events and shows envisaged over the six months’ period of the Expo Milano 2015 will attract some 20 million visitors to Milan, over 130 countries, companies and international organisations.
At present, the official participants which have confirmed their attendance are 138. Expo Milano 2015 will also leave a material legacy: the exhibition site will become a Smart city of the future, an ecological district for the intelligent use of technology and energy.
