Group to train 150 farmers in modern farming techniques in Kano
The North-West Agro Input Dealers Association will train 150 farmers in Kano State on modern farming techniques, the President of Association, Alhaji Saidu Zakari said in Kano.
He said that the farmers would be trained in batches, with the first batch consisting of 50 farmers.
He said that the aim was to enable the farmers acquire knowledge on the use of various agricultural inputs and enhance their interaction with other farmers.
‘’This year we have been able to register 150 farmers for the training but we decided to start with the first batch of 50 farmers.
“The training will also enable the trainees to know quality agricultural inputs for better yields,so as to boost food production in the country,’’ he said.
Zakari explained that the training would give the farmers, the opportunity to use the best available inputs to enhance agricultural production.
He said that the association had registered members in various markets located in the six states of the zone who would benefit from its programmes and services.
‘’Members of the association participate actively in the Growth Enhancement Scheme (GES,) of the federal government,’’ he said, urging state governments to make fertiliser available to farmersin good time.
‘’We hope the federal and state governments will make agricultural input available for 2015 cropping season which is fast approaching,’’ he said.(NAN).
