Kano Govt. restates commitment to support agricultural sector
The Kano State Government on Wednesday said it was committed to the implementation of policies and programmes aimed at improving agricultural production.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Garo, stated this in Kano at a one-day sensitisation workshop on agricultural extension.
The workshop was jointly organised by the State Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Local Government and Sassakawa Global 2000.
Garo said the state, with over 70 per cent of its population engaged in agriculture, would welcome any initiative which would improve the sector.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna, represented by the Director, Agric Extension Services, Alhaji Sadi
Ibrahim, said the workshop was part of the collaboration between the state government and Sasakawa Global 2000.
Gawuna said the workshop was aimed at sensitising local government chairmen, directors, heads of agriculture departments and community leaders on agric extension services.
“The programme is also aimed at sensitising the targeted participants on the implementation of Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa project in Kano,’’ the commissioner said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Bagwai Local Government, Ado Isiyaku, noted that the 44 local government councils would work toward the success of the government’s agricultural policies and programmes.participants at the workshop were drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state.
