A mission of Nigerian companies in the agricultural and food sector will be at the 14th edition of the Djazagro Trade Show, which comes up from April 18 – 21, in Algiers, Algeria. The mission is being organised by Promosalons Nigeria, an official representative of Promosalons France, in collaboration with Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

According to a statement from Akin Akinbola, managing director/CEO, Promosalons Nigeria, Cameroon and Gabon, “Djazagro 2016 is Africa’s number 1 global food marketplace for the food industry professionals, which cuts across – be it for fresh or processed – ingredients, bakery and pastry. Food services, food conditioning; processing and packaging and food products and beverages.”

The last edition in 2015 was said to be the biggest agro-food show in Algeria, which attracted about 93 percent of visitors coming from the country. There were 637 exhibitors, 43 percent of whom were first time exhibitors. Out of 78 percent of the exhibition’s total surface space, international exhibitors took up 76 percent of the space. About 31 countries were in attendance including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, Egypt, and France.

“Djazagro is the ‘unmissable’ show for players in the agro-food sector and also the melting point for major players in the continent’s food sector, who wish to improve their products’ quality and services delivery, which meets up to international standards,” Akinbola said.

The 2016 edition is set to strengthen its communications across the North Africa region, while opening up to sub-Saharan Africa. Sectors that will be represented at the event include equipment and machines for processing and packaging food; fragrances and ingredients; bakery pastry making; finished food products and beverages, and catering.

Apart from exhibitions, there will be competitions such as the Djazair Excellence by Djazagro that feature chefs and young talents, Algerian School’s Cup, and Chef’s award. There will also be a conference themed Export Talk, which will cover a wide-range of topics ranging from public measure to support exportations; export of agro-food products; the credit insurance for export, and so on.

“The Nigerian food industry is growing at a high pace; players in the sector are coming up with ideas and innovations on how to improve their products and services. Thus, Djazagro is very important and provides the perfect opportunity for the ongoing food transportation process in the Nigerian agro-allied industry potentials to be realised. And for this reason we would be partnering with the foremost Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry to organise a delegation for key players in the Nigerian agriculture and food industry,” Akinbola said further.

At the event, the mission will be meeting and interacting with professionals and exhibitors from more than 200 countries; have one-on-one business meetings upon request; have an overview of the agribusiness industry food trends and innovations worldwide, and establish long lasting relations, sharing expertise and experience, present new projects and lay foundations for fruitful collaborations.
