2015: Nigerian ruling party governors adopt Jonathan for president
Nigerian governors under the aegis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum last night adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as their sole candidate for the 2015 presidential poll.
The presidential election is billed for February 14, 2015.
The governors took the decision after their meeting, which held at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, who is believed to be nursing presidential ambition, was, however, conspicuously absent at the meeting but represented by his deputy.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, chairman of the forum and governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, said it was a unanimous decision by all the governors present, stressing that there was no dissenting voice.
Governors present at the meeting include those of Niger, Kogi, Enugu, Kaduna, Cross River, Taraba (acting) Gombe, Abia and Delta.
Others are: Adamawa (acting), Bayelsa, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Jigawa (deputy), Katsina (deputy), Sokoto (deputy) and Kebbi (deputy).
