CGRP, World Bank hold conference on petroleum, gas refining
Worried by the rising unemployment rate in the country, especially among university graduates, and the need to proffer solution through university researches and workshops, the Centre for Gas, Refining and Petrochemicals (CGRP), Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS) of the University of Port Harcourt, in collaboration with the World Bank African Centre of Excellence and Centre for Petroleum Research and Training, is holding an international conference and exhibition on gas, petroleum refining, petrochemical and fertilisers.
The conference, which holds at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, would have a number of international scholars and project experts who will deliver technical papers.
According to Godwin Igwe, a professor of Petroleum Engineering, and the director of CGRP-IPS, University of Port Harcourt, the conference would dwell on the theme. ‘Enhancing employment and development opportunities through gas, petrochemicals and fertiliser industries’, with a view to finding a linkage between vast opportunities existing in gas, petroleum refining, petrochemical and fertiliser industries and employment.
Igwe, who is a fellow of the UK petroleum engineers and the World Bank McNamara USA, told select journalists in Port Harcourt that the CGRP-IPS conference, which comes up August 27 to 28, is the third since it started in 2011.
He added that this year’s edition would feature technical paper presentations, panel discussions by petroleum, gas, petrochemicals and fertiliser industry experts.
