Dozens feared killed as twin blasts hit Maiduguri main market

Dozens were feared killed on Monday at Maiduguri main market in Borno State after two explosions that came in quick succession, according to witnesses.

Two female suicide bombers blew themselves up last week Tuesday in the same market, killing at least 40 people and injuring several others. The two explosions came about 11:20a.m.

Gideon Jubrin, the spokesperson of the Borno State police command, confirmed, he however, promised to get details later.

Abba Ibrahim, a security guard at a government hospital near the market, told newsmen that the blasts caused several traders running for safety.

“As it is now, people are running for their dear lives, so one cannot confirm to you the extent of damage, but the two blasts we just heard were too loud that they could cause more damage than the ones of last week,” Ibrahim noted.

Dauda Bala, a trader, also told newsmen on phone that “the security and other aid workers are trying to evacuate the dead and injured persons from the scene of the explosion…I can’t say how many were killed or injured but I have seen very many victims dripping with blood, others with parts of their bodies dismembered by the blasts”.
