Ebola: Reps to re-examine school’s resumption date

The House of Representatives on Tuesday directed its committee on education to convey a stakeholders’ meeting on education as part of efforts towards resolving the lingering crisis over the new resumption date for private and public primary/secondary schools across the country.

The directive was necessitated by growing concern among various stakeholders, especially parents and guardians of the students, following the recent decision by the federal education authorities to re-open schools for the 2014/2015 academic session on Monday, September 22, 2014.

In the wake of the outbreak of the dreaded Ebola virus disease (EVD) in the country, Ibrahim Shekarau, education minister, had announced a postponement in the resumption date of schools from September to October 13, 2014, so as to give the country’s health authorities enough time to ensure containment.
