Eid-el-Fitr: Sambo, Tambuwal, Ihedioha, Fashola, Oshiomhole, Uduaghan, Aregbesola sue for peace, cooperation
Vice President Namadi Sambo has urged Nigeri¬ans to sustain their prayers for peace and stability in the country.
Sambo made the call in Abuja on Sunday while field¬ing questions from newsmen after the Eid-el-Fitr prayer.
“We extend our sincere happiness to Almighty Allah that has made it possible for us to see this important day and to pray that he continues to grant favour to our country, Nigeria, for peace and progress.
“We thank Almighty Allah for what he has granted us and we pray that we continue to be given good health and the wis¬dom for the development and progress of Nigeria,” he said.
He called on Muslim faith¬ful to strengthen the bond of friendship and unity across the country and to always exhibit the good virtues of Ramadan for the progress of the society.
Aminu Tambuwal, speak¬er, House of Representatives and his deputy, Emeka Ihe¬dioha, also stressed the need for Nigerians to contribute more meaningfully towards the unity, stability and pro¬gress of Nigeria.
In his Sallah message, Tam¬buwal equally urged Nigerians to be conscious of their health by strictly adhering to instruc¬tions issued by health profes¬sionals, saying the outbreak of Ebola virus in neighbouring countries is a source for con¬cern in the country.
The speaker also urged all Nigerians to be more dedi¬cated to the Nigeria project, adding that with unity of purpose, building a virile and strong nation is achievable.
On his part, Emeka Ihe¬dioha, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, congratulated Muslims across the country for a successful month-long Ramadan fasting which, according to him, has delightfully ushered in Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
He therefore urged Mus¬lim brothers and sisters to ensure that the Sallah celebra¬tion is held in an atmosphere of peace, harmony and unity to underpin the blessings of Ramadan fasting.
Governor Babatunde Fas¬hola of Lagos sought the co¬operation of all Nigerians in finding lasting solution to the challenges confronting the country, saying only Nigerians can take it out of the doldrums.
In a Sallah message to the people, the governor said it is only by embracing peace, uni¬ty and fairness that Nigerians can put the country back on its leadership pedestal and urged them to embrace the spirit of love, tolerance, forgiveness and brotherhood preached by Islam and other religions.
Governor Adams Oshiom¬hole of Edo State congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion on the Ramadan fast. In his Eid-el-Fitr message signed by his chief press secretary, Peter Okhiria, the governor enjoined the Muslim faithful to sustain the spirit of godliness, charity, perseverance, and spiritual intercession for the nation.
According to him, “The Ramadan offered the Muslim faithful another opportunity to shun evil for good; another opportunity for the faithful to remould and reshape his life both physically and spiritu¬ally to meet with the aspira¬tions of Almighty Allah as laid down in the Holy Qur’an.
“Having observed strictly the injunctions of Almighty Al¬lah by self-denial through fast¬ing and prayers and by offering Zakat to the less-privileged, the lessons learnt during the Holy month should not be lost.”
On his part, Governor Em¬manuel Uduaghan of Delta State said that Nigerians must collectively denounce terror¬ism and terrorists as it was an¬tithetical to the people’s way of life or any known religion.
The governor, who stated this in a goodwill message to Muslims in commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebra¬tions, urged that terrorism and terrorists must be combated by all in the interest of peace and unity of the country.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State called on Mus¬lims to pray for peace and survival of the country as they end the Ramadan fast.
Aregbesola observed this in a message to the Muslim Ummah across the country as they mark the Eid-el-Fitri celebration ending the thirty-day fasting.
In a message signed by the director, bureau of communi¬cations and strategy, Office of the Governor, Semiu Okanla¬won, the governor said prayer is necessary both for the coun¬try and the State of Osun as the election draws closer.
The governor said Nigeria faces perhaps her worst chal¬lenge in security, a develop¬ment, he said, has almost destroyed the economies of some parts of the country.
