Enugu Assembly impeaches deputy governor
Enugu State House of Assembly has impeached Sunday Onyebuchi, deputy governor of the state.
Onyebuchi’s removal carried out at exactly 10.39a.m was sequel to the adoption of the report of the 7-man panel that investigated allegations of gross misconduct levelled against him by 22 out of the 24 members of the House.
The House leader, S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye, who moved the motion for the adoption of the report, said the panel of investigation had come up with the conclusion that the “allegations of gross misconduct levelled against Onyebuchi by the House have been proved”.
The impeachment panel had, on Monday, submitted its report to the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Eugene Odo.
Chairman of the panel, Frankln Uche Oraekeiyi, who led six other members of the panel to the speaker’s office on Monday morning, said that the report was prepared in three volumes made of their findings, the proceedings, and their recommendations, which he did not disclose.
The deputy governor has, however, insisted that he did not commit any offence that should have warranted his impeachment and that the poultry farm he operated was there before he assumed office in 2007.
He was reported to have also told the impeachment panel that the governor also operated a piggery at the Government House.
