FG assures on containing Ebola virus spread

The Federal Government over the weekend as¬sured on its readiness to avert the outbreak of the Eb¬ola disease which recorded a case in Lagos recently from a Liberian air traveller.
Onyebuchi Chukwu, the minister of health, tasked Nigerians on proper hygienic standards even as he revealed that “the virus is highly in¬fectious, serious and deadly disease affecting humans and animals such as monkeys, go¬rillas, chimpanzees, bats, birds, reptiles, and amphibians”.
He informed that “on 22nd of July, 2014, the Federal Gov¬ernment was alerted on a suspected case of Ebola virus disease involving a 40-year-old male, travelling from Monro¬via, Liberia to Nigeria on Asky Airline via Lome to Lagos”.
“The passenger presented with fever, vomiting and diar¬rhea on arrival at the airport. The port health division of the Federal Ministry of Health quickly isolated the passenger and transported him straight to the hospital to avoid contact with the general public. He later passed away on the early hours of Friday”.
The minister also informed that all the passengers the pa¬tient came in with have been traced for proper vaccination, revealing that, “all ports of entry, land borders have been placed on alert to ensure fur¬ther spread are put on check”.
