FG declares December 25, 26 public holiday
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25 and Friday, December 26 as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations.
This is contained in a statement signed by Abubakar Magaji, permanent secretary, Ministry of Interior, and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement said Thursday, January 1, 2015 had also been declared as public holiday to mark the New Year.
According to the statement, the minister of interior, Abba Moro, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.
In the statement, Moro enjoined Nigerians, particularly the Christian faithful, to extend the spiritual benefits of Christmas to their daily living and through this, contribute to the development of the nation.
While wishing all Nigerians a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year celebrations, the minister also urged them to use the occasion to pray for peace and unity in the country.
