FG investigating politicians linked to insurgency

The Federal Government says it has started investigating some politicians who have been linked to the terrorism gang that is unleashing terror
on the country.

Though their names were being withheld, director general, National Orientation Agency (NOA) and coordinator, National Information Centre, Abuja, Mike Omeri, told journalists that the discovery was after the successful operations by the security forces in the Balmo forest.

“After the last successful operation carried out by the security forces to dislodge terrorists from their forest bases in Darazo Local Government Area end of the Balmo forest, some politicians are currently being investigated over their link with the activities in the forest”, Omeri said.

Omeri, therefore, called for immediate and thorough abstinence of politicians from insurgency and terrorism as the interrogation has led to the discovery of some registration cards and other materials of a political party found in the possession of some suspects arrested.

“As a prove of reality, the politicians are being interrogated following the recovery of some sensitive registration cards and other materials of a prominent political party that were found in the possession of some suspects arrested”, Omeri noted.

He assured Nigerians that the outcome of the investigation would be made public on completion.

“The investigation is still on going to further unravel the identity of others that may have been involved and as soon as it is completed, we
shall reveal the names of the culprits and political party”, Omeri promised.

Accordingly, Omeri emphasised that the Federal Government, particularly the security forces would not condone the involvement of politicians in security issues.
