ITF boss bags BEEC’s best parastatal award
Business Education Examination Council (BEEC) at the weekend in Lagos honoured Juliet Chukkas-Onaeko, director-general, Industrial Training Fund (ITF), with the best performing government parastatal award for excellence.
In his remarks at the ceremony in Lagos, Mike Okereke, president, BEEC International, said even the blind could testify to the laudable achievements of ITF under the leadership of the award recipient, hence, BEEC decided to acknowledge her efforts.
According to him, the ITF under the present leadership has laboured quietly over the years, providing organisations and governmental agencies with the required skills for economic growth, saying that Chukkas-Onaeko has again proven that women when given the opportunity to serve will deliver more than their male counterparts.
He said: “Human beings are needed to drive every sector of our economy and that is what ITF has been providing over the years. ITF has been proving its mettle by delivering the mandate given to it hence this institution is recognising ITF. It is about excellence. It is about human capacity development. ITF, in its drive for excellence, has partnered with NECA (Nigerian Employers Consultative Association) and other organisations and international organisations to deliver the mandate and Nigerians seem to have taken the institution for granted”.
In her remarks, award recipient, Juliet Chukkas-Onaeko, said she was highly motivated by the recognition and that her morale was greatly boosted to strive for greater achievements with the ITF.
“It is a great thing to be honoured by institutions like BEEC. Often times, you get so busy that you don’t even have the time to tell yourself well done. You are greatly motivated when others are now the ones saying thanking you for a job well done. Going by the citation I just listened to now, I must say that ITF really deserves the award. But I must dedicate the award to the staff of ITF across the country who have continued to give their best. It would not have been possible without their commitment”, she said.
David Demetrius, senior management consultant, The Management School, London, who presented the award to the recipient, later told BusinessDay on the sidelines that the ITF’s boss indeed merits the award because ITF under her has been providing the skills required in moving the Nigerian economic forward.
Ernest Shonekan, head, Interim National Government (ING); Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, publisher, Champions Newspaper and Lateef Jakande, a former Lagos State governor, were also past recipients of the BEEC’s award.
