Jigawa firm establishes 20 seed farms

The Jigawa Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO), has established 20 seed out-grower farms to boost the production of quality rice seeds in the state, the company’s Managing Director, Alhaji Hassan Girbobo, said on Monday.

The seed farms are located in Ringim, Kazaure, Dutse and Hadejia local government areas of the state.

He said the farms were designed to produce rice, maize, cow pea, groundnut and millet seeds for farmers in the state.

Girbobo added that the measure was to enhance availability of certified seeds and to discourage the use of low quality variety by farmers.

The managing director said “we collect foundation seeds from the National Research Institute, Badagary, and distributed same to farmers for planting.

“The company is supporting farmers to produce certified seeds to encourage production.’’
