Jonathan receives N98.156m support for nomination form

President Goodluck Jonathan has announced the receipt of N98.165 million from Nigerians as support for the purchase of his nomination form for the 2015 presidential election.

The president also announced that he is picking the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) nomination form for the 2015 presidential election tomorrow.

The PDP had earlier given an ultimatum that all intending aspirants on the party’s platform should declare their stand on or before October 30.

Briefing journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, presidential spokesman, Rueben Abati, said the president thanked all Nigerians, members of the PDP, friends, associates, and all groups “who in sincere appreciation of the achievements of the administration in the last four years, have been urging him to seek a second term in office”.

He added that President Jonathan is greatly encouraged by the overwhelming outpouring of goodwill and support, as well as the confidence of the generality of Nigerians in his ability to continue to transform the country for the good of all of its people.

“The president is also grateful to all the persons, groups and communities who have sent donations, and made pledges to assist him to pay the required N22 million for the PDP presidential nomination fee and expression of interest form”, he said.

Abati added that the president acknowledges and accepts with immense gratitude the donations and pledges that he has received from a broad section of Nigerians.

Some of the donations made include N22 million from the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN); PDP governors, N22 million; Kennedy Ikenna Odoeme, N5, 000; Ezemagu Sunday Nnamdi, N10, 000.

The president assured the donors that he will continue to do his utmost best at all times to fully justify the great confidence they have placed in his leadership.
