Lagos targets 10,000 women in skill acquisition
Lagos State government is targeting 10,000 women for its empowerment programme which is to commence on September 1, 2014.
Governor Babatunde Fashola, who stated this at the flag off of the programme in Ikeja, yesterday, said registration for the skill acquisition training would begin August 25 in all the local government areas of the state.
According to the governor, funding for the vocational/skill training programme is derived from taxes paid by the citizens.
According to him, the empowerment programme is opened to all women resident in Lagos State, urging unemployed women in Lagos to register for the empowerment programme by the time it begins on August 25.
The training will cover cosmetology, soap making, bead-making, among others.
Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the state deputy governor who also oversees the Ministry of Women and Poverty Alleviation, speaking at the event expressed optimism that the state and national economy would be better off with the inauguration of the training programme.
