Lagos working to create one-stop payment system for customers, says Fashola
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State says the state government was working to align its various payment platforms to create a one-stop shop for customers and members of the public doing business with any of the state agencies, parastatals or ministries.
The governor made the disclosure weekend at a three-day retreat for members of the state executive council and body of permanent secretaries with the theme, ‘Up-scaling the processes and benefits of e-governance in Lagos,’ which held on Victoria Island, Lagos, saying the world has advanced in technology deployment and Lagos cannot be left behind.
According to the governor, such platforms as vehicle licensing, taxes, land use charge, GIS, among several others, with the state government interface with the public are being aligned to make them a lot easier for customers to deal with the government.
Fashola said the retreat was to afford the members of the council and the permanent secretaries the opportunity to cross examine their works and seek ways to improve upon what they do variously and collectively as key drivers and implementers of government policies for the good of the citizens.
Meanwhile, the governor has decried mass failure of students in public examinations, and advocated the adoption of more exciting teaching methods to enhance students’ performance in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to him, the use of teaching methods that are not appealing to students is one of the major causes of mass failure, pointing out that given the present age, objective use of information communication technology could impart more knowledge on the students.
Fashola said the present generation of students were averse to rigid way of learning and would rather prefer fun based and exciting teaching methods and tools like computers.
