Niger govt. inaugurates 2 committees to ascertain state finance, infrastructure
Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger on Friday said his government would streamline government’s activities for efficient management of state resources during the inauguration of two committees to x-ray the state finances and its infrastructure between 2007 and May 2015.
He said that his administration would block leakages in expenditure and ensure strict adherence to due process in financial matters.
They are the committees on Finance Management and Infrastructures in Government House, Minna.
Bello announced Mohammed Nda and Mohammed Imam to head the finance and infrastructure committees, respectively.
He said that the finance committee would help to streamline government’s activities for efficient management of state resources, block leakages in expenditure and ensure strict adherence to due process in financial matters.
According to him, terms of reference for the finance committees include ascertaining the financial assets and liabilities of the state and local government as at May 29.
He said that the finance committee would determine and verify all revenues that accrued to the state and local governments from Federation Account Allocation Committee between 2007 and May, 2015.
Bello said that the finance committee would review all major financial transactions of the state and local governments above N100 million from 2007 to May, 2015 with particular reference to contract awards.
He said that the finance committee would determine whether there were financial irregularities in the transactions and identify officials or persons involved and to recommend appropriate action to be taken.
The governor said that the infrastructure committee would look into infrastructure decay and give general recommendations on infrastructure development in the state.
Responding on behalf of the committees, Imam said that they would do everything possible to ensure success on the jobs assigned to them.
The committees have a period of three months to submit their reports.
