NLC asks FG to investigate attempt on Buhari’s life

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to make haste in instituting a high powered investigation into the assassination attempt on Muhammadu Buhari, former head of state and Dahiru Bauchi, a prominent Islamic cleric, in Kaduna on Wednesday.

Both men narrowly escaped death in the blast that rocked Kaduna on Wednesday, leaving over 100 persons dead, in what is suspected to have been carried out by the Boko Haram Islamic sect.

The congress in a statement signed by Abdulwaheed Omar, its president, ratesdescribed the incident as shocking, saying both Buhari and Bauchi are Nigerians who continued to labour for the good of Nigeria.

“We would want a comprehensive investigation of these incidents with a view to not only unraveling the forces behind them but for the purpose of preventing subsequent attempts.

“Boko Haram, it seems has become a convenient brand under which all manner of atrocities are committed. We condemn the senseless slaughter of innocent lives and call for more action from the government and more vigilance from the citizenry,” the statement said.
