NUC to unveil new portal documenting doctorate degree holders
The National Universities Commission (NUC) said it would soon unveil a new portal for the proper documentation of doctorate degree holders (PhD) across the country. This is even as it described as unacceptable the number of doctorate degree holders who scramble for job opportunities in the nation’s job market, whereas there are possible spaces for them in the nation’s higher institutions of learning.
Julius Okojie, the executive secretary of the commission, confirmed over the weekend that the commission is working out a strategy to be able to develop a portal for doctorate degree holders, categorise them and find a space for them in the nation’s higher institutions of learning. “I am always amazed at the number of our doctorate degree holders that besiege my office daily in search of jobs. I say to myself, we can make a provision for these doctorate degree holders in our nation’s universities,” Okojie lamented.
“Most often, some professors come up to me and demand for doctorate (degree) holders in specific fields of study, whereas there are lots of them who are not engaged in the public sector. We are already planning towards having a web portal for them, so that they would be properly engaged”, the executive secretary further revealed.
Okojie, who made the disclosure against the backdrop of the newly licensed nine new private universities in Abuja, noted that the Federal Government is keen on providing access to qualitative education and harvesting best brains in the country and in Diaspora to lend support to higher educational learning in the country
