Plateau assembly constitutes committee to investigate gas explosion
The Plateau House of Assembly has constituted a committee to investigate the cause of gas explosion at the Laminga water treatment plant in Jos on Saturday, which led to loss of lives.
The constitution of the committee followed a motion brought under “Matter of Urgent Public Importance’’ at plenary on Wednesday by Nyam Dareng, representing Jos South constituency.
According to him, the ugly situation was recurring for the third time in the history of the treatment plant, hence proactive measures need to be taken to check future occurrence.
“History has it that the explosion has happened for the third time in that same spot, which means people within that vicinity are living on a time bomb.
“So, I call on this honourable house to take proactive measures in order to avert future occurrence,” Dareng said.
Constituting the committee, Speaker of the House, Peter Azi, said that it was unfortunate that the incident occurred at a time when the state was still mourning those who lost their lives in the July 5 twin blasts.
The committee has Peter Ibrahim, representing Barkin Ladi constituency as chairman. He is the Chairman, Water Resources and Eneregy Committee of the house.
The committee has two weeks to report back to the house
