Udom dissolves transition committees of 31 LGAs
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved the transition committees of the 31 local government areas of the state in an apparent move to constitute new officials for the councils.
The tenure of the committee members lapsed on June 30 after their tenure had been extended twice through legislation by the state assembly.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State government, Etekamba Umoren, and made available to the media, the state government said the dissolution took effect 1st July, 2016 adding that affected chairmen of councils and their committee members were to hand over government documents and property in their possession to heads of service in their respective local government councils.
It would be recalled that the state House of Assembly had during a resolution passed recently, urged the governor to dissolve the transition committees following the expiration of their tenure.
The assembly acceded to the governor’s request to continue with the care-taker arrangement at the third tier of government by constituting a nine member transition committee members to administer the councils pending when the current economic realities would improve to allow for the conduct of elections into the local government areas.
Governor Udom Emmanuel is expected to announce a new list of Care-Taker Chairmen and members not exceeding nine for each of the 31 local government councils any moment from now.
