Wike wins Rivers PDP guber primary

As expected, Nyesom Wike, former minister of state for education, has won the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial primary today in Port Harcourt with 1,083 votes. The nearest challenger got 20 votes while some others got between three and one.

The group resisting his emergence, the G-16, including the former petroleum and foreign affairs minister, Odein Agumojobia and Tonye Princewill, went to court but nothing seemed to come out of it. Their grouse is that Wike’s group, the Grassroots Democratic Initiative (GDI) controls all organs of the party in the state, asking for an all-inclusive PDP.

By this outcome, Wike is to confront APC’s Dakuku Peterside, a member of the House of Representatives from Opobo, an Ijaw.

Wike has already extended hand of fellowship to all other aspirants, asking them to join the train to defeat APC in Rivers State. “We shall and we should work together to recover what is rightly ours”, he told reporters after winning.
