UBTH board seeks UNIBEN’s partnership for medical productivity, service delivery

The management board of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has called for partnership  between the University of Benin (UNIBEN) to enhance the hospitals productivity and service delivery.

Bashorun Adedoja Adewolu, chairman, board of management of the hospital made the call during a courtesy visit to the vice chancellor of the University of Benin, Osasere Faraday Orumwense at the Ugbowo campus in Benin-City on Tuesday.

Adewolu, also urged the authorities of the institutions to embark on research and training to address challenges in the health sector.

According to him, the university community is a worthy partner in progress with the teaching hospital. I want to urge the vice chancellor to partner with the hospital in the area of research and training.

“To make the teaching hospital meaningful, we need your cooperation and that is why the decree that set up to make provision for the University representative to be a member of the Board. There cannot be a teaching hospital without a University”, he said.

The chairman, who eulogized the contributions of the founding fathers of the hospital, said there was need to sustain the legacies of late Samuel Ogbemudia.

He noted that such can only be achieved by pursuing aggressive research and educational training of medical personnel.

In his remark, the vice chancellor of the University of Benin, who assured the UBTH Board Chairman of the necessary support to the teaching hospital  noted  “that there is no gap between UBTH and UNIBEN.”

The newly inaugurated Board Members of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital are  Bashorun Adedoja Adewolu, chairman, Temitope Fabanwo, Onyemelukwe John Paul, Aliyu Oroji Wammako, Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Darlington Obaseki, Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC, UBTH), Casmir Omuemu, Director of Administration (UBTH), Philomena Omoregie.

Others are Representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, N. Ezeigwe, Representative of the University of Benin, Jacob Ehiorobo, Provost College of Medicine UNIBEN, Efosa Oviasu, Representative of Senate UNIBEN, John Akerele, Woghiren Emmanuel, Innocent Ujah and representative of other Health Professionals (JOHESU), Philip Owolabi Salu.
