Vigilance, security and safety
With Christmas and New Year holiday here again, along with the massive movement of people across locations, the rush, the merrying, Nigerians, the security and safety agencies and governments across the country should not go to sleep.
In all that has to be done, people should comport themselves in a manner that would not endanger their lives and property or cause danger for the lives and property of others.
Over the years, safety agencies and the police have recorded high rate of road accidents in the end of year holiday season. This can be linked to the high feeling of frenzy amongst people, the tendency to be in a hurry while driving, thus shunning the rules that should guide road users. Traffic agencies across the country should at this period of the year be more alive to their duties. The Police should be more alert to check crime and criminality and offer a sense of protection to the citizenry.
With Boko Haram insurgency and their penchant to unleash mayhem at festive periods of this nature, security agencies should be proactive and plan to forestall any ugly occurrence rather than wait to witness such ugly development that may be costly in terms of human and material losses.
Road Safety agencies and the Police should be ready to prevent gridlocks on major roads, routes and highways to ease traffic and save human lives. Tools of operation like towing trucks are vital in this season for the evacuation of obstructive vehicles.
The citizenry should totally desist from the use of explosives to avoid damage on property, fire outbreak and loss of human lives. The Police should ensure that existing laws on the sale and use of these explosives are implemented.
For everyone, vigilance, security and safety should be uppermost in this season.
We wish Nigerians a peaceful season.
