Wife of Anambra governor empowers 990 less privileged in Ihiala, Ozubulu
Wife of Anambra State governor, Ebelechukwu Obiano, braved the heavy rains Wednesday to empower 990 indigent women, widows, physically challenged and children in Ihiala and Ekwusigo local government areas of the state
She personally distributed goodies to the 990 persons in the areas as part of her ongoing empowerment tour of the 21 local government areas of the state.
The beneficiaries made up of 40 persons per community include 770 persons from 14 communities in Ihiala and 220 persons from the four communities in Ekwusigo local areas, respectively.
Others are 180 indigent women, 180 widows, 270 physically challenged persons, 270 aged women and 70 children received various items such as bags of rice and clothing.
Other items are school bags containing Math set and exercise books for children, treated mosquito nets, and stipend to ameliorate their plight.
Obiano said the objective of the empowerment was to reach out to the less privileged and ensure that every Anambra citizen was given a sense of belonging.
She reaffirmed her commitment to the training and empowerment of women, widows and youths under her pet project, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE) to be productive to the society.
She further urged the beneficiaries to register with her NGO, CAFÉ to be trained in vocations such as tailoring, bakery and confectionery, beauty therapy and computer/telephone repairs.
She stressed that after training they would be given the necessary equipment and funds to start up their chosen enterprise.
Earlier, Transition Committee chairman of Ekwusigo, Ikenna Ofodeme, said Obiano had set the standards for selfless service to mankind as a mother.
His Ihiala Local Government counterpart, Ifeanyichukwu Odimegwu, also praised the governor’s wife for her charitable works.
