CIG adds GS4 SUV among growing product lines
Last Monday remains a day to be remembered for a long time in Nigeria’s auto industry and the arts and entertainment world, courtesy of the outstanding GAC GS4 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) of Chinese extraction unveiled on this fateful day.
Prior to the night when it was launched, preparations for the new GS4 unveiling had everything going for it. It was launched by the poolside, inside the Eko Hotel & Suites, perceived in many quarters as the most prestigious hotel in Lagos.
The event graced by very important personaliwties, among them, Wole Soyinka, a professor and Nobel Laureate and Lai Mohammed, the Minister for Information and Culture,.
Others are Yu Jun, General Manager of GAC Motors.; Diana Chen, Chairman of CIG Motors Limited; the Chinese Consul General, Chao Xiaoliang; the Oludo of Ido,Oba Adeen Adedapo Aderemi, among others.
During the evening of glamour and colourful lightening aroung the swimming pool side, Diana Chen, Chairman of CIG Motors Nigeria Limited announced donations to some players and stakeholders in the arts sector as well as 25 percent discount for those who buy the vehicle immediately after the launch.
Diana Chen who happens to be the first Chinese woman conferred with a Nigerian chieftaincy title, told the guests that her company has been supporting the culture and arts of Nigeria since it started doing business in the country about three years ago.
Similarly, Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, reasoned that the creative industry is a major avenue for revenue generation and commended CIG Motor (sole distributor of GAC vehicles in Nigeria) for its support to the sector.
According to him, “I am very proud to here today especially know the contribution of the GAC Motors in the area of culture, especially in the area of the creative industry, and I wish them many more years of collaboration”.
Nike Davies-Okundaye of Nike Centre for Arts and Culture also commended the GAC brand, and recommended the brand to auto patrons, because, according to her, the two units of the brand she bought sometime ago are giving her good value for money.
Also in his remarks, Chinese Consul General, Chao Xiaoliang, said Nigeria and China have a lot in common, and have a lot to benefit, even as he observed that GAC has a very good pedigree in delivering quality vehicles to customers.
General Manager of GAC Motor, Yu Jun stated that his company has been known over the years for quality auto products accepted in Europe, the United States of America and other parts of the world.
According to GAC automakers, the GS4 is efficient, powerful and very roomy. The new model, which GAC says will “set a new benchmark for Chinese cars”, offers conventional styling but comes with rugged cladding around its lower body.
GAC says the GS4 will only be available with one engine, a 1.6-litre turbocharged unit which offers “remarkable driving power and excellent fuel economy”.
A leather-trim features inside, as well as an infotainment screen and multi-function steering wheel. GAC says the cabin of the GS4 can offer passengers “a comfortable and stress-free ride”.
