CPC wants Nigerians to provide information on vehicles affected by recall
On the heels of the recent auto recalls of Ford Fusion, Lincoln and Focus vehicles on account of Manufacturing defect, the Consumer Protection Council, (CPC)wants to Nigerians to provide information about the ownership or operations of vehicles or operations of vehicles affected by the recalls.
The Council in pursuant of its regulatory functions also randomly sampled affected consumers to verify that the recall had been effective. This surveillance,Babatunde Irukera, the director general of the council demonstrated that consumers affected had been contacted and had the necessary parts changed at no additional cost to them.
Against this backdrop, the council directed authorized Ford dealers in Nigeria to provide extensive information about the recall and the framework for the implementation of corrective measures, which the dealers had since complied with, according to the Council’s statement.
However, the council confirmed that responses and information from the dealers and our inquiries satisfactorily demonstrate that it is appropriate to end investigation such as this from a consumer protection standpoint, while affirming the closure of the case as concluded.
Any further complaints, statements or inquiries relating to this recall should be sent to contact@cpc.gov.ng. The Subject of the email should read “Ford Recall.”
The Council will continue to provide relevant updates, advisories, or warnings, if they become necessary in the future.
