‘Dilapidated Apapa-Ijora road damaging vehicles’
Vehicle owners plying the ever busy Costain-Ijora-Apapa-Wharf road are daily groaning under the damages inflicted on their vehicles as a result of the uneven surface and dilapidated portions of the road leading in and out of the busy Apapa-Wharf vicinity.
Motorists who spoke to Business Day this week complained that the impact of the rough surface of the decaying road specifically from the Leventis Motors end through to Orile link bridge and Lagos State Water board is not only damaging the shocks, stabiliser linkages, bushings and suspension system and regular incidences of tyre burst, but also has its negative health implications.
Many of them lamented that appeared getting trapped in long traffic hours that are not predictable, they are now regular guest to road side mechanics and other car workshops almost on weekly basis to change damaged parts of their vehicles.
They pleaded on both the federal and state governments to urgently resurface the affected deepening portions and craters along the corridor. Among the factors affecting destruction of the road are the weight of heavy duty trucks and other articulated vehicles coming out of the Apapa seaport many of which are mechanically defective.
