GAC Motors, Holyfield, Tinubu lights up Lagos@50
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of Lagos State, GAC Motors partnered with the state as the official car company for the uniquely spectacular ‘Rumble in Lagos’ sports-entertainment event.
Being the first of its kind on the African continent, part of the golden jubilee programme of event was a commemorative match between Bola Ahmed Tinubu former governor of Lagos state with Evander Holyfield, former five-time world heavy weight boxing champion.
Although Bola Tinubu, a high ranking All Progressives Congress chieftain and a political heavyweight of Nigerian politics was did not show up in the boxing ring for the much expected and awe-inspiring match, with Wole Soyinka, a professor and Nobel laureate himself as the umpire, the event was in line with the vision of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to put Lagos on the global sports and entertainment map.
Evander Holyfield arrived in Lagos last week and as part of his itinerary engaged with children and youths, visited gyms, attends a ceremonial weigh-in at Ikoyi Club and also presented award at the festival gala to the Vision of the Child Champions.
On hand to welcome Evander Holyfield into the GAC Showroom in Lagos where he had a glimpse of the new GAC GS-8 SUV with all the trappings of luxury was Diana Chen, a Nigerian titled chief of Chinese extraction and Chairman and CEO of Choice International Group (CIG) the sole distributors of GAC Motors in Nigeria.
In its responsibility as the official car company for the event, CIG made available a fleet of cars especially to the former boxing champion and his entourage that brought him straight from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and throughout the duration of the event.
Explaining the rationale behind her company’s support during the event, Daina Chen, reiterated the commitment of her company to supporting initiatives that promote sports entertainment, youth empowerment and the general wellbeing of the Nigerian populace.
According to her, GAC Motor is delighted that some of its exquisite products will serve as official cars for Evander Holyfield and his entourage during their stay in Nigeria.
