Geely deliveries slump 20% amid makeover to 35,646

Geely Automobile Holdings says its sales in April plunged 20 percent from a year earlier to 35,646 units. The sales drop was caused by the ongoing product improvements and the reshuffling of its sales and marketing organisation.

The China carmaker this year started phasing out three sub-brands — Emgrand, Gleagle and Englon and plans to introduce new models under a single Geely brand. In April, sales of the Emgrand EC7 compact sedan, Geely’s top-selling model, dropped 9 percent year-on-year to 12,486 units.

By contrast, sales of its two SUVs, the GX7 and the SX7, surged 56 percent from a year ago to 7,138 units. In the first four months, sales were down 33 percent year-on-year to 125,253 units.

The decline of its monthly sales has slowed since the beginning of 2014, reflecting gradual recovery of its sales volume. Geely is headquartered in the east China city of Hangzhou and listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange. Its corporate parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., owns Volvo Car Corp.
