Lagos MOT, FRSC moves to tackle road carnage

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) have expressed their determination to undertake joint monitoring to reduce road carnage arising from the current traffic flow pattern, especially at the Toll gate and 7-Up area by Motorways in Ojota, Lagos.

The joint action plan to deal with incidences in the area were hatched and unfolded recently when the Unit Commander of Ojota Unit of FRSC,Kehinde Hamzat paid a courtesy call on Dayo Mobereola, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation in Ikeja .

The commissioner who observed that the essence of collaboration is to protect lives further explained that joint action and synergy between agencies of the 3-tiers of government will ensure commuters safety and assist in the realization of the goals of each tier. He decried the continued loading and off-loading of passengers in residence and filling stations especially at Ojota despite the existence of appropriate motor parks.

He also noted that the approval to construct a new pedestrian bridge by the Lagos state government will not only enhance safety of those crossing but also boost travel time for vehicles.
Earlier, Kehinde Hamzat of the Ojota Unit Command had intimated the commissioner with the situation of accidents around the axis. He noted that crashes were becoming rampant due to open
drains and the pattern of utilization of the two U- turns at the 7-Up area.

The FRSC official further commended the Lagos state government for the positive impact of the various construction projects being undertaken to improve the flow of traffic in traffic prone areas of the State by the Lagos state government. Describing the commitment of the State government as commendable, Hamzat, noted that the various development, which can be traced to the traffic summit shows that the State is committed to building its economy and ensuring safety.
