New LR Discovery duo for Nigeria debut
Coscharis Motors; owners of the British Land Rover franchise in Nigeria, is about to launch the new Discovery and Discovery Sport into the market. In terms of specifications, the two vehicles are essentially different in terms of size, luggage space, towing, ground clearance and engine.
Both vehicles retain the bloodline and heritage of Land Rover since inception and represents perfect vehicles for people who enjoy living an active lifestyle to the full. However, these variants are not substitute for each other as some customers and prospects think.
Although the Discovery Sports doesn’t look like the current model, it is the first model from a new generation of leisure Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in Land Rover’s Discovery family, a new family of vehicles with true Land Rover versatility and capability at their heart.
While the new model share some unmistakeable Land Rover design cues with the current Discovery, it can be said that the design language has evolved. However, the new Discovery Sport does share the spirit of adventure which is fundamental to the Discovery DNA, and when you drive it, that strong Discovery character is easily recognisable.
What are the key differentials of these vehicles? Discovery 4. This is recently renamed Discovery. It is bigger though always in its element, whether it is crossing town or taking everyone beyond the city limits for a weekend trip.
Its on-road capability is as smooth and convenient as its off-road capabilities. Though it is more appreciated as an adventurer, customers have testified to its smooth and luxury on-road prowess. It can drive like any other premium on-road vehicle while it remains the most versatile off-road.
In the area of comfort and convenience, the Discovery’s stadium seating gives everybody untainted views and can comfortably seat seven adults. With rear seats folded, Discovery has plenty of room and luggage space of 2,558 litres.

Unlike rivals such as the BMW X5 and Mercedes M-Class, underneath the Discovery’s plush exterior beats the heart of an extremely tough off-roader. The high ride height and advanced suspension means the Discovery can tackle the kind of steep hills and deep water that would leave its rivals floundering.
Typically, the Discovery with a wading depth of 700mm and a front axle clearance of 209mm; it boasts of an approach angle of 27.3 degrees/22.8 degrees and departure angle of 29.6 degrees /26.7 degrees – off-road and standard respectively.
Other features of the Discovery include a wheelbase of 2,885mm, rear wheel track 1,612.5mm, length 4,829mm, Width 2,200mm (mirrors out), front wheel track 1,605mm, rear axle clearance 216mm and Height 1, 887mm. It enjoys a turning circle – kerb-to-kerb 11.45m and turns lock-to-lock 3.32.
Buyers can choose from SE, HSE and HSE Luxury models. All come with air suspension, an eight-speed automatic gearbox, alloy wheels, a heated front windscreen, Bluetooth phone connectivity, cruise control, and a host of off-road gadgets that give the Discovery its legendary all-terrain ability.
