Porsche plans diesel-free future

In the face of tightening emissions legislation and limited sales of of its diesel derivatives, Porsche has confirmed that oil burners won’t be part of its future plans.

Against this backdrop, Oliver Blume, Porsche CEO, has stated that the firm’s future plans for more efficient engine technology will be focused around full electric vehicles and hybrid powertrains.

This move comes in the face of increasingly strict emissions legislation and diesel sales that constituted just 12% of Porsche’s bottom line in 2017.

“Porsche is not demonising diesel,” said Blume. “It is, and will remain, an important propulsion technology. We as a sportscar manufacturer, however, for whom diesel has always played a secondary role, have come to the conclusion that we would like our future to be diesel-free.”
