Railway police security upbeat aftermath hoodlums DMU attack
Following the recent attack of the newly acquired Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) by hoodlums in the Ijoko, Agbado and Itoki Stations, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) police command, with the assistance of Ogun State and Lagos State police commands, has reinforced its capacity to deal with the hoodlums.
The railway police command led by the railway commissioner of police, Yarz Jatau, last week carried out a raid of the affected stations and arrested 124 suspects who were being interrogated and those found culpable would be charged to court.
Normalcy has been restored and all scheduled train services are moving with no hitch. The NRC police command has beefed up security at all railway stations and track corridors along the Lagos Mass Transit Service route.
It would be recalled that the public, especially the commuters, were notified about the proposed increase in train fare a month ago. The notice described the improvement in service associated with the proposed rise in fare such as enhanced safety, reduction in congestion, air-conditioned cabins, and more reliable and frequent services.
To this end, the management of the NRC wishes to appeal to the public to accept the new rate to ensure efficient service delivery.
