Recalibrated X6 Coupe makes Nigeria entry
Nigerian luxury car enthusiasts gathered last Sunday inside the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos to witness the unveiling of the BMW X6 Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) Coupe by Coscharis Motors into the local market.
The new BMW X6 is the latest in the X series and updates the X5 in terms of performance, driver’s involvement and stability which puts the BMW in its rightful place as a car that gives customers the desired sheer driving pleasure.
Coscharis president, Cosmas Maduka, speaking through Okey Nwuke, deputy group managing director, Coscharis group, told the enthusiastic audience that gathered during the night of cock tails and exchange of pleasantries among guests that, the introduction of this new BMW X6 into the Nigerian market at this period will avail lovers of premium automobiles, a wider option of choice.
The newly introduced BMW X6 according to the deputy managing director is a car any car freak would like to drive by himself no matter his standing in the society. According to him, the local BMW franchise is loaded with array of model ranges to showcase to Nigerians hence they have continued to introduce premium lines since the beginning of the 2015. The BMW X6 is available in two engine variants: the xDrive 50i (4.4 V8 engine, 400 hp, 450lb.-ft torque) and the xDrive 35i (3.0 inline six-cylinder engine, 300 hp, 300 lb.-ft torque), both with Twin Turbo and direct injection. Like the current model, the 2015 BMW X6 is easily identified by its sloped, coupe-inspired roofline, but the biggest news might be the addition of a rear-wheel-drive model. Globally, the BMW X6 within industry critics might not be the prettiest or the most practical utility vehicle on the market, but BMW has sold more than 250,000 of its “Sports Activity Coupe” since 2008.
Big sales mean that the X6 will be sticking around, and it also means that competitors are getting in on the action and little wonder, BMW and Coscharis Motors unveiled the 2015 BMW X6.
Aside from the defining roofline, the styling of the 2015 BMW X6 has a more athletic look than the outgoing model. This starts with a more squared-off front end carried over from the face of new X5, sharper side body creases that create a more dramatic profile and the L-shaped taillights found on many other current BMW products.
Like the updated exterior styling, the X6’s interior design matches that of the X5 with a wide, fixed infotainment screen, a large gauge cluster pod and a clean overall look. Accenting the cabin, BMW offers trim that includes brushed aluminum, fine line striped wood and oak wood.
For utility, the three-passenger rear seat is split 40/20/40, and with the seats in place, rear cargo capacity is rated at 20.5 cubic feet; drop the rear seats and available space is increased to 53.9 cubic feet.
Inside this updated X6 is an SAV that, “blends the robustness and versatility of a BMW X model with the sporting elegance typical of the brand’s Coupes.” They are true to their word, as the X6 looks like a perfect mix of SUV and coupe.
It is actually bigger than previous models, but many will be surprised to hear that BMW really trimmed the fat this time around. Depending on which model you choose the 2015 X6 is 33 to 55 pounds lighter compared to previous versions. BMW also boasts that the new model has achieved 50:50 weight distribution thanks to a change in front suspension.
