Three-pointed-star Mercedes begins GLA sales

Mercedes-Benz is adding a fifth attractive SUV variant to its model portfolio, the GLA. As the fourth out of a total of five new compact models from Mercedes-Benz, it is the first SUV to be optionally available with the new generation of the 4matic permanent all-wheel drive system with fully variable torque distribution.

Depending on the market, the compact SUV is now available for ordering, with the first models due to arrive at dealerships in March 2014. Prices in Germany start at €29,303.75 (including 19% VAT) for the GLA 200.

“With its fascinating design and high everyday practicality, GLA will fill many new customers with enthusiasm for the Mercedes-Benz brand,” stresses Ola Källenius, member of the divisional board, Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales.

He said that with the GLA, “Mercedes is expanding the comprehensive SUV range with further emotionally appealing variants and as such are exploiting the constantly growing compact SUV segment for the brand.”

The entry-level model in the GLA range is the GLA 200 rated at 115 kW (156 hp). Positioned above this are the petrol engine variants rated at 155 kW (211 hp) GLA 250 (€35,283.50) and GLA 250 4MATIC (€37,496.90). The GLA 250 4MATIC sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. There are also two diesel offerings for any of these models, but available at different prices.
