A day of fun for parents, children
Parents and their children won’t have asked for a more exciting and engaging weekend than what had taken place during the Chalcedony School family fun day, as the children came in mass with their families, friends and loved ones to spend quality time together and create more bonding amongst themselves.
The moment was free from work huddles, stress of the office and the academic environment the children would every day experience. It was a more relaxing day for them as they shopped at the mini trade fair, bought raffle tickets to stand a chance of winning the trip to Dubai for two, engaged in dance competitions and met old friends amongst others as so much was served for eating and drinking.
Chalcedony Family Fun Day is an annual event and this is the 4th edition. It is an avenue to bring the family and children together and have fun, making everyone was as comfortable as they could be.
This year is however different as the school brought new innovations, such as introducing a mini trade fair, where people can showcase their product and those interested can buy and Chalcedony family invited other families as well.
Speaking during the Chalcedony School Family Fun day Celebration, Enitan Jones, Parent and the chairman of the Event Committee said the event is themed ‘One Big Family,’ as this ensures people have social interaction, integration and bonding and the children have invited their friends, families and Ex-students to celebrate with them.
“We have a raffle draw and the two winners get a trip to Dubai and we have other consolation prizes of different sizes and categories. We believe that all work and no play make a child dull,” Jones added.
Gbemi Olowookere, head of School said the event shows the quality of what the school does with the children, as Parents have brought their children to the school, they are well impressed about the standard of the school and have told their friends and neighbors.
Shedding more light on the event, she explained that the idea of the fun day is to have one day in a year, where a whole family come together to have fun, they sit together, eat together and have entertainment together. Parents get to know themselves, and create opportunity for them to network.
According to Olowookere, “We have a group of parent committee who serve in the school for a maximum of 2years, after which another set will come, so that a fair opportunity is given for everyone to serve.”
She further explained that the school also has the Parent Consultation Day that happens once every term, where parents have the opportunity of meeting with the teachers of their children, adding that the school operates an open door policy, where parents can have opportunity of speaking with the teachers whenever they feel like.
“We have supporters of the programme such as Fidelity, FCMB, and Exotic Travel Agency. We also have a 17 Man Parent Committee, who have worked on this project, supporting in many ways. They have also tried to network with other parents to give support in different ways,” she disclosed.
She noted that in addition to the star prize, there are other consolation prizes such as the deep fridge, 48 inch TV, the gas cooker and bicycles, amongst others
The high point for pupils and their parents was when Jimi Agbaje, the People’s Democratic Party, aspirant for Governor of Lagos State showed up. He emphasized that he doesn’t take for granted any opportunity to meet the people because if he does not move around, he would not know the issues that play.
“If you don’t see the children and talk to the parents, you may not understand their issues. It is important that in terms of development and growth, you must touch base with everybody. As you go on in government, you must partner with civic societies, Parents Teachers Association,” he said.
Agbaje also stressed that Government today is about sharing and partnership, adding that Public private partnership need not be in a formal sense, it is about getting their ideas and coming out with a new mix that is acceptable to both parties.
