Health benefits of drinking beetroot juice

Beetroot juice is very nutritious that may help lower your blood pressure and improve your health.

The beetroot is the taproot portion of the beet plant, usually known in North America as the beet, also table beet, garden beet, red beet, or golden beet.

In Nigeria, high blood pressure affects at least one in three men and one in four women, accounting about 45 per cent of death due to heart diseases and 46per cent of adult ages 25 years and above has the highest prevalent of high blood pressure according to World Health Organisation (WHO).

A study by British Heart Foundation study found out patients could lower their risk of hypertension symptoms by drinking beetroot juice.

The nitrates in beetroot may be the key to reducing blood pressure, scientists claimed.

Roasting or juicing beetroot could also harbour anti-hypertensive benefits, as the root vegetable is water soluble, and boiling them will lower the amount of benefits.

High blood pressure is often known as ‘the silent killer’, as there are usually no symptoms of the condition at all.

According to WHO “normal adult blood pressure is defined as a blood pressure of 120 mm Hg when the heart beats (systolic) and a blood pressure of 80 mm Hg when the heart relaxes (diastolic). When systolic blood pressure is equal to or above 140 mm Hg and/or a diastolic blood pressure equal to or above 90 mm Hg the blood pressure is considered to be raised or high.”

Other health benefits of beetroot juice includes it may reduce cholesterol, helps to maintain a healthy weight; it provides vitamin C, good source of potassium and other minerals.
