Kano assures residents of improved Health Care Delivery
Kano state government has focused keen attention on quality, availability and affordability of health care services so as to maximize the potential and productivity of its citizens, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stated.
“One of the cardinal principles of the administration is improving the health of the good people of Kano state and this is as a result of our firm belief that a healthy society is a wealthy and productive society”, he remarked.
The governor made the assertion during the commissioning of DFID/EU Solar Nigeria Project at Gwagwarwa Primary Health Center in Nassarawa local government area and inauguration of 83 TED microscopes, donated to Kano state government by National Tuberculosis Programme/Global Fund.
The governor maintained that through community mobilization and evidence based interventions such as recruitment of health personnel, community midwifery program, training, upgrade and renovation of health facilities as well as sustainable health financing, a revolution has commenced in the health care sector of the state.
“Projects such as the solar power in health facilities and other EU interventions in the education sector will help in standardizing health services and go a long way in consolidating what our government is doing to expand access to education”, he stated.
Governor Ganduje therefore commended development partners like the EU for supporting the government towards ensuring that people in the state have unhindered access to health care irrespective of their socio – economic status hoping the trend would be maintained.
In her remarks, the EU representative, Nadia Kanada stated that with the project, the state government would now channel the funds it spends on purchasing diesel for health centers to other positive endeavors.
Also speaking, DFID Head of Mission for Nigeria, Debbie Palmer was optimistic that the EU interventions would change social services in Kano stressing that “the EU/Kano state government partnership would be transformative for the people”.
In a related development, Governor Ganduje performed the symbolic commissioning of six Child Birth Spacing units of six health facilities in Kano, upgraded by The Challenge Initiative, TCI, at Ja’en Primary Health Center, in Gwale local government area.
