NGO provides free medical care, scholarship to over 5,000 Nigerians
The Director-General, Project Blessing Nigeria (PBN), Mr Femi Ajide, has said that over 5, 000 Nigerians have benefitted from PBN’s free medical care and scholarship programme.
Ajide disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
He added that the organisation, which had been existing officially for two years, had touched number of lives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa state.
Ajide said that the aim of the organisations was all about granting scholarships and free medical care to the less privileged in the society.
“It is a paradigm shift on how we look at our neighbours; and our aim is to be a blessing by helping our neighbours to focus on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Six that deals on environmental sanitation.
“We are sensitising communities on the effect of open defecation and discouraging them from it. Our project is targeting schools and communities.
“We have facilitated drilling of boreholes, buildings of toilets, as well as hostels in schools so that students can live in an environment conducive,” he said.
He added that the organisation also distributed school bags and school uniforms to pupils among others.
Ajide cited an example of de-worming a community through the help of their doctors and also treating another community in Kabusa, FCT, of intestinal disease.
“We went to a village called Angwa-Sayawa in FCT and did de-worming for them and our doctors consulted for them.
“We also went to another village in Kabusa where we found out that they were having many intestinal diseases and our doctors gave them free drugs. We are still doing more.”
He noted that their source of income had largely been from individuals and volunteers, who want to bless and help the poor.
According to him, anyone can be a blessing to his/her immediate society irrespective of his or her income, learn to share no matter how little.
He added that the organisation usually celebrates and honours those who had been blessing the poor through their various awards.
He mentioned, ‘The National Women Leadership Award,’ ‘National Heroes Blessing award’ and ‘National Christian Leadership award’ as the honour conferred on well meaning Nigerians.
The NAN recalled that PBN recently honoured the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, Mrs Titi Atiku, Mrs Gimbia Dogara, Mr Joe Bankole, Special Adviser on Multimedia to the Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria, and 40 others with National Women Leadership award.
