India to establish NIIT centre in Akwa Ibom
The Indian government has indicated interest to establish a branch of its National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) in Akwa Ibom State as part of efforts to promote knowledge economy in the state.
Mahesh Sachdev, Indian high commissioner to Nigeria, who made this known in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State said the Indian government was already offering Nigerian graduates free tuition as well as free air fare for NIIT courses in India “for the good of Nigerian graduates in a bid to strengthen the relationship between India and Nigeria.”
He described NIIT as a leader in information communication technology education offering courses in learning and knowledge solutions globally to individuals, enterprises and institutes in information technology, business process outsourcing, banking and professional life skills.
The high commissioner, who reiterated the intention of the Indian government to establish the NIIT centre in the state, noted that when established it would offer vocational skills to youths in the state.
Earlier, Governor Godswill Akpabio thanked the Indian government for the strong economic partnership with Nigeria, adding that it was an indication that the relationship between both countries was getting stronger.
