Sterling Bank partners IT firm on computer education
Sterling Bank Plc in partnership with Audax Solutions Limited, an education technology solutions company, is flagging off a computer education initiative toward boosting e-learning in Nigeria. The Computer Science Education (CSE) program tagged: ‘Audax Code School’ is in line with the bank’s One Education initiative aimed at consolidating its strategic focus on education and its commitment to youth empowerment and development in Nigeria. According to the organisers, the initiative is aimed at bridging the digital skills gap in Nigeria, empower children and teachers in both rural and urban areas, foster creativity and creative thinking skills through information and communications technology learning and encourage careers of underprivileged youth through Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education.
The training program which is aimed at also deepening awareness of Computer Science Education among children and youth will cover Summer Code School, Africa Code Week, Computer Science Education Week, Hour of Code Week, and Train the Trainer Sessions.
Sterling Bank, in a statement released at the weekend commended Audax Solutions for initiating the program, noting that participants who took part in previous program raised “our hope that we still have in Nigeria, a crop of children with potentials to be among the best in the world in the area of computer education, if given the right exposure and encouragement” it said.
The bank also stated that this has informed the reason for its support for the 2016 edition. The partnership with Audax Solutions, according to Sterling bank, was informed by the belief that teaching children programming skills is essential to developing their problem solving, creative and communication skills, helping to foster an interest in technology that can result in profitable and rewarding careers.
