Babington-Ashaye meets FG to give insurance qualifications rightful place in public service

To ensure that insurance qualifications are recognized and given their rightful place in federal public service employment, Funmi Babington-Ashaye, president, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has approached the federal government.

The move was part of efforts of the CIIN Boss, to ensure that insurance professional qualifications become attractive, marketable and offer holders equal opportunity with their counterparts in other professions.

Babington-Ashaye, during a courtesy visit to office of the Head of Service (HOS) of the Federation recently, said the CIIN has embarked on a number of initiatives to increase human capacity and professional development in the industry.

Received by Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, head of Civil Service of the Federation, Babington-Ashaye, stated that efforts of the Council will not yield the desired results, if products of these institutions are not properly recognized and placed in the Civil Service like their counterparts in Accountancy and other professions.

“As you aware, the Federal Ministry of Education visited our institute and carried out the evaluation of our certificates in April, 2010 in order to advise your esteemed Office on the standard/rating and relevance of the professional qualification of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria. We were very delighted when the Federal Ministry of Education accepted the recommendations of the 9-member Expert Assessors Committee.”

Babington-Ashaye stated further that to give effect to the recommendations, through a gazette, our Institute was advised and we wrote through NAICOM and Federal Ministry of Finance (our supervising Ministry), to the Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation , while urging her to use her good office to consider and expedite action on the request.
