Cornerstone Insurance firms up push for safety driving among motorists
Continuing in its partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to promote healthy driving attitude among Nigerians under the project “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020”, Cornerstone Insurance plc say its first phase rally which took place at Ojota Main Part in April according to statistics has yielded positive result.
According to the insurance company, conscious and healthy driving attitude among commercial bus drivers routing from Ojota Garage witnessed improved trend going by reduction in the number of road carnage since that initial campaign.
In over 21 years of its operation, Cornerstone Insurance plc has developed into a leading light in the insurance sector in Nigeria. Licensed by the National Insurance Commission to write life and general Insurance business, Cornerstone has about 14 branches and sales outlets operating in different parts of the country.
Over the same number of years, the name Cornerstone Insurance has become Synonymous with strategic collaborations that are capable of bringing enduring benefits to the people, which the Company said aligns with its Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) principle of giving back to the host community.
Tokunbo Bello, managing director, Life and Retail, Cornerstone Insurance plc who spoke at the 2nd Cornerstone Insurance/FRSC Safety Campaign Rally held at Iyana Ipaja Main Park assures of the Company’s commitment to achieving the goal of the project targeted at improving safe driving on the roads.
“It is a known fact that road crashes kill more people than HIV/AIDS and Malaria in Nigeria, where the country has lost some of her ‘best brains’ to the cold hands of death through various road accidents. This apparently calls for change, and Cornerstone Insurance is poised to be at the vanguard of such change.”
Bello noted that the Company believes that education and reorientation of motorists and road-users alike is the only genuine way of promoting behavioural shift and ultimately making our roads safer for all.
Ademola Lawal, zonal commanding officer, FRSC Lagos and Ogun, said at the rally that the agencies investigations shows that certain negative human elements that are road crash induced tendencies such as speeding, over-confidence, dangerous driving, impatience, use of phone while driving, drink and diving and dangerous overtaking were major causes of road accidents.
“Information from crash investigations at our disposal have indicated that these negative human factors have continued to dominate the driving habits of most road users, and as such the constitute the most predominant causative factors in road crashes.”
Lawal represented by Nsebong Akpabio, said like Cornerstone Insurance, the agency has been persistent in its quest to synergise and promote stakeholder cooperation because it cannot do it alone.
He said the collaboration with Cornerstone Insurance is timely and very commendable, as record show that in the second quarter of 2013, Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) has been reduced by 40 percent and related fatalities by 34.7 percent in the Zone. It is our hope that with our continued collaboration, we can sustain the trend and ensure that our roads are safer for all categories of users.
