Insurers seek opportunities to boost growth in regional market
Targeting huge business opportunities in the West African sub-region, the West African Insurers Companies Association (WAICA) will be in Lagos next week to discuss possible ways to explore these growth potentials.
The forum being the 2013 Educational Conference, will be looking at two key topics “An Integrated and Harmonised Insurance industry in West Africa”; The Challenge Facing Integration in West Africa” and “Insurance Growth in West Africa and the Benefits of Integration.”
The date is November 24 – 26, at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, the local organising committee has said.
According to William Coker, the secretary general of the West African Insurance Companies Association, “the sub-regional body is keying into the regional integration efforts of ECOWAS heads of government and insurance as a critical player in the economy, and so must take its pride of place in the scheme of things.
“If we are promoting the concept of a global village, the insurance industry in the West African sub-region needs to be seen as frontrunner in promoting efforts at regional integration,” he added. The keynote address will be given by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the coordinating minister of the economy and minister of finance, who will also declare the Conference open.
