Jigawa Pension Board settles 349 retirees, relatives of dead civil servants
The Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme Board said it had paid N468,546,968.12k to 349 beneficiaries.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji Suleiman Kiyawa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Tuesday.
Kiyawa said that 244 of them were those that had retired from service, while 105 were relatives of those that died in active service.
He explained that the N468, 546,968.12k covered payments for retirement and death benefits.
The executive secretary said that the state had one of the best pension policies in the country because it was up-to-date in its payment of entitlements to its retirees, including those that died in active service.
Kiyawa said that the scheme did not cover only state and local government staff but also those that worked with the local government education authority.
According to him, the board issued crossed cheques to the retirees; while survivors of the deceased collected their own cheques from the court registrars.
He also said that the agency was up-to-date in the payment of monthly pension allowances to all retired civil servants across the state.
