NAICOM has organised over 200 workshops, training for stakeholders
The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) says it has organised more than 200 workshops and training programmes for insurance practitioners and journalists to expand their knowledge about the sector.
Fola Daniel, the Commissioner for Insurance, disclosed this while declaring a one-day training for insurance reporters in Ilorin on Friday.
“The objectives of the training include engendering better working relationship with media practitioners and public awareness.
“To address media on latest policies and developments and curb bad press among others,” he said.
Daniel said as part of the efforts to reposition the sector, the commission was considering introducing insurance training in secondary and primary schools in the country.
“The commission is making concerted efforts to introduce insurance education in primary and secondary schools,” the commissioner.
Two papers on ‘’NAICOM and Insurance Business Regulations in Nigeria’’ and “Regulations and Supervision, the Role of Media’’ will be presented at the workshop.
The facilitators will include the Director of Supervision in NAICOM, Mr Nicholas Opara and the Chairman of Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA), Mr Sunday Thomas.
NAICOM is the sole regulator of insurance practitioners, brokers and underwriters in Nigeria.
The Commission derives its regulatory powers from the National Insurance Commission Act 1997 and the Insurance Act 2003.
