NCRIB corporate affairs manager heads Ogun NIPR
Public Relations professionals have been told to continually subject themselves to a regime of formal and informal learning in order to remain relevant in the society.
The newly sworn in Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Tope Adaramola gave the advice during his inaugural speech at the Business Meeting of the chapter held in Abeokuta, recently.
Adaramola, who is the manger Corporate Communication unit, Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) said professional could reckon himself as one, if he or she does not aspire to be an expert in his chosen field and stressed that many ignore this fact to their detriment.
He lamented that the PR profession had not been able to take its rightful place in the scheme of things in the country, in spite of the abundance of PR professionals that abound in the country and the pivotal place that the profession occupied in other climes. He pledged that the trend would change, starting from Ogun State.
“It is regretful that PR which ideally should be the voice, ear and nose of the society has been neglected to the backgrounds while some other professionals take opportunistic stance, especially on issues management most times to the detriment the Nigerian society.
He highlighted the value proposition of his tenure to include, enhanced level of professionalism of members; more relevance on issues management; and erection of a befitting secretariat complex. Others are the hosting of a website for the chapter and the sustenance of the laudable projects inherited from previous regimes, which included the production of the yearly Image Maker journal.
